“Hand to Hand” is a non-profit organization. Our vision is to reach out in compassion to the community here at home and around the world. We endeavour to bring support and provide for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those who, because of war, famine, natural disasters, and poverty cannot help themselves. These communities are dependent on the goodwill of those who unselfishly give of themselves and their resources.

In April 2007 a group of Hand to Hand volunteers traveled to the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Karnataka, South India. There, they visited Moriah Orphanage run by Dr. Monovah Nickelson. This orphanage offers displaced, orphaned, and abandoned children much needed safety and shelter. Although the facility is run by compassionate caretakers, funds are limited. Consequently, the building was in disrepair and the children slept on the cold, damp cement floor.

Our staff provided the materials and manual labour for the renovations and the upgrading of the building. Moreover, thanks to the generous contributions from individuals in the community, and corporations who sponsored this project, the children now have warm and comfortable beds to call their own.

The words often said: “It is better to give than to receive” come alive and deliver a tremendous sense of joy when put into practice. We saw first-hand that when compassion meets action, great things happen!

Our next project in the month of August 2008 includes drilling a well in Uganda and bringing aid to the community. Proceeds from the Hand to Hand Arts and Craft Show, and all other fundraising events, are used exclusively for the projects. Our volunteers provide their own travel and living expenses as part of their commitment.
